Well, after being absent for ~2.5 years, here's a new post! This one is photo links, (to my facebook photo albums) for those of you who say I've been remiss in putting pictures online.

Liam's 1st B-day Party
Let's start with something self explanitory: it's a party!

A little bit of 42
The title is a reference to the same bit of pop culture as the title to my other blog. This album is for all the random things that I want to capture on film (Technically, they're captured in bits, but that just doesn't have the same ring to it.).

A Little (CameraPhone) Bit of 42
The same thing as above, except these pictures are from our phone. (Ain't technology KEEN!?!)

Update

Hello, all! I'm sorry that I haven't posted in a l o o o ng while, (I know you all want pictures) but things have been rather hectic around the Brown household. My current job requires 50+ hours a week; I spend most of the remainig time with Audra and Paige. I'm still looking for an engineering job in the Huntsville-Nashville vicinity, so if anyone knows of any leads, please let me know. I hope that all y'all are having a nice life--please write me and let me know.

A bit of news

Today I worked my last day at Fleetguard, Inc. With a bit of luck I'll be working somewhere else next week, as dictated by my manager at Adecco (the temp agency). I'm using the rest of this week to move. That's right--Audra, Paige, and I will soon be in a new apartment. I sent out an e-mail today with our new address. If anyone did not receive it, (and would like to) write me at boobrown AT hotmail DOT com. Use the title of this post as the subject to make sure I get your message. Have a great day!

Congrats to the Pecks!

I got word from Jon Peck that Jamie and Amy Peck had their little boy today at 2:29 and was 7 lbs 8 oz. Everybody is doing well--we wish the best for them!

Everyone Agrees!

Audra and I (and of COURSE Paige) just got back from our second weekend trip. For our first trip with Paige, we went to Gallatin to see Audra's family and friends. This past weekend we went to Huntsville to see my family and friends. We went to Gallatin first for a couple of reasons, not the least is that Gallatin is much closer, thus an easier trip for a couple of new parents unsure of their baby's car behavior. We realize that all of these wonderful people are biased, but it still is nice when they all say that Paige is a beautiful baby! (Of course, we already knew that!) Their other predominant comments were: (in no particular order) how good Audra looked, how quiet Paige is, and how much they hoped I would get a job near them. The first and second I agreed with, (despite some outbursts, she really IS a good kid) and the last I simply deflected. I would love to get a job nearer our families, but I'm mostly looking for a job. (Any offers, anyone?)

Election Night

I haven't spent a lot of time posting here recently, as you've noticed, I'm sure. Most of my online time has been spent in looking for a job and at political sites. Now that the election is over, the latter shouldn't be quite so demanding on me. I'm still waiting on the returns from the former.
On a positive note, I found that holding a fussy baby makes a great excuse for staying up late and watching the election returns. I found CNN to be the best TV channel since all the others overdid the coverage of the local returns. All the races in TN were of less consequence than the national one, I believe.

A second place to go

I've just created a second blog where I might (or might not) talk about anything and everything that is not directly Paige-related. My resoning is that people visit Minha Filha to see pictures of Paige and to read about Paige. Other stuff would be a distraction to them. So, other stuff has to go somewhere else.

More baby goodness

Early photo of Paige, taken by my parents My first time giving her a bath--and she likes it! Happiness is lying around, just kickin' it Paige seems to like her personal carrier just fine, thank you Ah, yes--life is good!

A few more for the photo-lovers

Paige has decided that baths really aren't all that bad She has also developed a sudden love for the King! Post-bath cuteness, including holding her head up

A few notes

I'm sorry that there haven't been any more pictures of Paige in the last few days. I'll remedy that deficiency shortly. I post pictures through Flikr, (which is a free service, like blogger) so I have to observe their bandwidth limits. I'm already more than half-way through my limit for October, so I'll have to ration new pictures accordingly.

Looking better

I need to thank Chris A. for his help in restoring this site's sidebar to its rightful place: the side. I asked for a little help yesterday at church, and he e-mailed me a solution this morning. If only all technical help was this great!

Ed. Note: Upon re-reading this post, I realized that the last sentence sounded rather cold. I was NOT equating Chris with technical assistance--I was simply expressing the disire that technical assistance would be more like getting help from a knowlegable friend.

Oops . . . I'll see what I can do

I just now noticed that the pictures pushed the sidebar all the way down to the bottom of the blog. I don't know what I can do about it, but I'll see. By the way, I post in a font named 'Trebuchet.' Why? Because it looks good and takes its name from one of the most incredible pieces of machinery--ever!

Favorite Lullaby

My favorite lullaby to sing to Paige during fussy or sleepy moments? "Slumber My Darling" by Stephen Foster. (Originally it was 'mother' instead of 'father,' but I don't think Mr. Foster would mind my personal revision.) My favorite recording of the song is from "Appalachian Journey," as sung by Alison Krauss.

Slumber my darling, thy father is near, Guarding thy dreams from all terror and fear. Sunlight has past and the twilight has gone-- Slumber my darling, the night’s coming on. Sweet visions attend thy sleep, Fondest, dearest to me. While others their revels keep, I will watch over thee.

Refrain Slumber, my darling, the birds are at rest. The wandering dews by the flowers are caressed. Slumber, my darling, I’ll wrap thee up warm, And pray that the angels will shield thee from harm.

Slumber my darling, till morn’s blushing ray Brings to the world the glad tidings of day: Fill the dark void with thy dreamy delight-- Slumber, thy father will guard thee to-night. Thy pillow shall sacred be From all outward alarms; Thou, thou are the world to me In thine innocent charms.

Refrain

Second round of pictures

Paige being held by Nana Audra holding Paige during a quiet moment Paige isn't quite sure what dad is up to Just the beginnings of a smile A couple of clueless men trying our best to treat a diaper change like a NASCAR pit stop Paige just after her first bath

Mau, anyone?

When I was in high school I learned to play a card game named Mau. It had some simple rules, some rules that followed an odd kind of logic, and some arbitrary rules. The REAL trick to the game was that you weren't told all the rules when you began playing; you had to learn them by yourself. The last few nights have reminded me of playing Mau. Taking care of Paige and keeping her happy is a learn-as-you-go kind of experience. And of course, she has very few methods of communicating her rules to us. There are easy, no-brainer rules, like:
"check my diaper" and "see if I'm hungry"
There are the logical-if-you-think-long enough:
"I don't like bright lights" or "small things lose heat fast--I'm freezing"
Then there are the completely arbitrary things:
"I will eat, sleep, wake up, and dirty my diaper when and wherever I so choose!" and "I'm fussy and upset, but you'll never guess why!"
So far, I think she's winning.

Labor of Love

Posting pictures took more time and effort than I thought. Oh well--it's definately worth it! So far I've learned two things about getting Paige to sleep: She doesn't like bright lights, and she likes to be moving. This means that we're not using any of the overhead lights in the apartment, just our lamps. It also means that, if all else fails, riding in the car makes Paige sleepy. Note to self: increase gas budget!

Picture Time

Here are some pictures to wet your whistle: Audra and Dot at the Huntsville baby shower Getting ready to go at 6:00 in the morning Ready and waiting for the big event Me cutting the cord Here she is in all her newborn glory! Paige getting some well-deserved rest

Pictures Coming!!!

This seemed like a great way to update everyone on Paige's progress. This keeps me from filling everyone's inboxes with gigantic photos taken of random moments. Sounds like a plan to me! I should have figured out how to get pictures off my camera and into the aether known as the Internet by the end of the week. Enjoy!

Baby Stats

Kathryn Paige Brown was born Sunday, October 10 at 2:37 pm. She weighed 8 lb and 1 oz, and was 20 inches long. Both mom and baby are doing well!

First Post

This site will be about me, my wife, and my daughter. (Although not necessarily in that order.) The title is "My Daughter" in Portuguese. Why Portuguese? Because I know a little, (and therefore am dangerous) and because I like how the title sounds. I don't think this blog will ever be famous, which is fine with me -- this is for my friends and family. If you don't know me, but like my blog . . . that's just a bonus for all involved.
